Jamal Khashoggi was strangled shortly after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, and his body was dismembered afterward, Turkish officials said.

In a statement issued after two days of talks with Saudi Arabia's public prosecutor Saud al-Mojeb, Turkish officials also said no concrete results were reached in those meetings.

The statement came short of accusing the Saudis of non-cooperation talking about meeting of the Saudi Chief Prosecutor Saud al-Mojeb and his entourage with Turkish law enforcement authorities earlier this week.

"In accordance with plans made in advance, the victim, Jamal Khashoggi, was strangled and killed immediately after entering the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia", the prosecutor's office said.

Khashoggi's body was then dismembered and destroyed in yet another sign his killing was planned in advance, the prosecutor's office said.

He also demanded that the 18 suspects Saudi Arabia arrested over Khashoggi's killing be sent to Istanbul, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

"Either the Saudi foreign minister or the 18 suspects must explain who the local co-conspirators are", Erdoğan said.

Mohammed bin Salman previously vowed that Khashoggi's killers - which the country has claimed were rogues - would face justice.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called on Saudi Arabia's chief prosecutor to find out who ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and not spare "certain people" in his investigation. "When Saudi officials accepted the responsibility, then I believed it happened".

It is also pressing Saudi Arabia for information concerning his remains, which still haven't been found.

Pentagon chief Jim Mattis said the United States had been watching the conflict, in which almost 10,000 people have been killed, "for long enough".

Turkey says an "inspection" of the consulate is expected to take place later on Monday, almost two weeks after Saudi journalist after Jamal Khashoggi disappeared there.

The letter was signed by five Republican senators, including Marco Rubio and Rand Paul, who have been vocal in their criticism of Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of Khashoggi's murder.

Turkish intelligence said it's shared an audio recording of Khashoggi's death with CIA Director Gina Haspel, who briefed President Donald Trump when she returned to Washington, D.C. In the recording, Khashoggi is assaulted and mutilated before he's injected with a drug.

The case has brought near unprecedented global scrutiny on Saudi Arabia and its powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom Khashoggi had criticised.

"He has denounced the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and continues to believe that the United Kingdom must hold Saudi Arabia to account for this barbaric act", the source added.

"He should not pave the way for a cover-up of my fiance's murder", she said.
