US President Donald Trump calls Khashoggi killing a 'total fiasco'

Trump calls Khashoggi killing ‘worse cover up ever’ but says it’s up to Congress to act US revokes 21 Saudi visas over Khashoggi death

On Wednesday Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is regarded as the country's de facto ruler, vowed to punish those responsible.

Earlier Wednesday, Bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the journalist's killing in a phone call, according to Turkey's state news agency Anadolu and the Saudi Press Agency.

State news agency Anadolu has reported that Turkish security officials say a 15-member team traveled from Saudi Arabia to Turkey just before Khashoggi, a USA resident, disappeared at the Saudi Consulate on October 2.

"We are looking at, as I said suspending export contracts, export permits which is something we've done in the past, we're also looking at the contract and to try and see what we can do because you know, obviously as we get clarity on what actually happened to Jamal Khashoggi, Canadians and people around the world will expect consequences", Trudeau said.

Trump has repeatedly declined to say if Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was behind or aware of the killing as many USA officials and foreign governments have concluded, in part because numerous crown prince's associates were involved in the killing.

It's very simple. Bad deal.

He also said that attempts to blame Khashoggi's death on intelligence operatives "will not satisfy us".

During the panel MbS touted Saudi Arabia's success in its efforts to transform its oil-dependent economy and make the deeply conservative kingdom a more tolerant society.

"We have shared with those who sought additional information some of the information and findings that the prosecutor has allowed us to share and that is legal to share", Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters on Thursday.

Despite those changes in the Saudis' story, the Trump administration has consistently defended the US relationship with Saudi Arabia as a "strong partnership" based on "shared strategic interests", as Pompeo said.

His comments came as a high-profile investment conference, the Future Investment Initiative (FII), kicked off in Saudi Arabia.

The US will revoked the visas of those believed responsible for Khashoggi's killing - Saudi Arabia says 18 Saudi nationals have been detained. If their involvement was proven, Trump said: "I would be very upset about it".

According to the report, Turkish security forces examined the consulate building but Saudi officials did not give them permission to search the garden of the consulate and a well in it.

With more than three weeks since Khashoggi disappeared, and the Saudi failure to produce a body - the Turkish authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the body of Khashoggi remains in Turkey.

There have been persistent calls for Trump to terminate multimillion arms deals with Saudi Arabia, including from within his own party.

"The first thing they did is to remove the hard disk in the camera system of the consulate", Erdogan said. The Turkish leader stressed that after the murder a person with a false beard, wearing glasses and clothes, who pretended to be Khashoggi, left for Riyadh that evening.

Attiah added that Khashoggi had told her that what "saddened him the most was the fact Saudi Arabia imposed travel bans on his kids after he started writing for" The Post.

CIA Director Gina Haspel is now in Turkey and is expected to return Wednesday.
