CNN reported Monday, citing sources, that "Saudis are preparing a report that will acknowledge that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death was the result of an interrogation that went wrong, one that was meant to lead to his abduction from Turkey".

The Saudi foreign ministry said King Salman affirmed his country's "solid" relations with Turkey in the phone call with Erdogan, stressing that no one could undermine their relationship.

The Washington Post reported evidence has been shared with US authorities.

Is this the end of Saudi prince's honeymoon?

His disappearance has sparked a worldwide outcry.

However, she said it is too soon to talk of Canada taking measures to censure Saudi Arabia. Turkish officials say they believe he was murdered there and his body removed. They provided no further details.

It is not clear what kind of search the officials are conducting, or whether it will include a forensic examination, given that it has been nearly two weeks since the reporter vanished. On Monday morning, President Trump offered a hand, telling reporters that, after speaking with King Salman about Khashoggi's death, "It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers - who knows".

The US president gave no evidence to support the theory.

October 8: Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., warns the Saudis of consequences if the government is found complicit in Khashoggi's disappearance. Pompeo is expected to go to Riyadh and later visit Turkey.

A team of cleaners were reported to have entered the consulate on Monday lunchtime - "causing a minor flurry of excitement", according to one reporter - hours before the search team showed up.

Until Monday, Riyadh had not allowed Turkish investigators to search the consulate - officially Saudi territory - with reports both sides were at odds over the conditions.

Jamal Khashoggi, a well-known journalist and critic of the Saudi government, has not been seen since he attended Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul last week.

An acting chief prosecutor and a public prosecutor assigned by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office carried out the probe at the consulate with Saudi officials. Permission apparently came after a late Sunday-night call between King Salman and the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

'There needs to be a credible investigation to establish the truth about what happened, and - if relevant - to identify those bearing responsibility for the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, and ensure that they are held to account.

British foreign minister Jeremy Hunt told his Turkish counterpart Khashoggi's disappearance remains "deeply concerning".

The Saudi consulate referred Reuters to authorities in Riyadh, who did not respond to questions about the 15 Saudis.

The kingdom's Tadawul All-Shares Index (TASI) lost more than 500 points, diving by seven percent in the first two hours of trading Sunday, in panic selling reminiscent of the days after the global financial crisis in 2008. But since the disappearance of Khashoggi, numerous event's high-profile media sponsors and journalists are pulling out in a show of solidarity, reports CNN. An Endeavor spokesman declined to comment on the report.

Saudi Arabia has pledged to retaliate economically for any U.S. punitive action.

Trump quoted the King on Monday as saying that neither he nor his son, the crown prince, had any information about what had happened to Khashoggi.
