Last night during The Late Late Show With James Corden, viewers were treated to a first look at X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The team embarks on a routine mission into space where things quickly take a turn and they find themselves in a battle with an intergalactic force over team member Jean Grey.

"Fanboys and girls did not love the movie [X-Men: The Last Stand]". Jessica Chastain is the major new addition as a mysterious shapeshifter who manipulates the Phoenix. When I wrote X-Men: "Days of Future Past years later - it was a time travel story - I thought, 'Well, here's an opportunity to rewrite this mistake - bring Jean Grey back to life.' I got to go back and essentially erase a $200 million movie". The first trailer for Dark Phoenix has arrived and it's looking like the first part of the title will particularly apply. Pretty much, the quality was garbage, and if you actually wanted to see and appreciate some real details regarding the film, you should probably have steered clear. The teaser, which was clearly bootlegged and is mostly unwatchable (and in Russian, too), gives us our first glimpse of what Simon Kinberg has in store and the return of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as Erik Lensherr and Charles Xavier. Either that or he just experienced something seismic and powerful. With her telekinetic and telepathic abilities out of control and hurting those around her, the X-Men must try to save Jean from herself, but also keep the world-domineering aliens drawn to her power at bay.

Interestingly, Magneto had nothing to do with the original - and groundbreaking - "The Dark Phoenix Saga" comic book storyline and the nature of his involvement in this latest attempt by the movie franchise to adapt it remains a mystery.

And while they're of a less high quality, several more images from Empire include a steamy moment of privacy between Turner's Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan's Cyclops. We're still betting she's Lilandra pretending to be a human.
