A man has died after being shot inside his own apartment by an off-duty Dallas Police Department officer who allegedly entered the unit thinking it was her home.

She declined to discuss a number of critical details about the altercation, including: how the officer came to enter an apartment that was not hers, how close the residence is to her actual apartment, how she came to mistake one for the other and what happened in the moments leading up to her opening fire.

Allie Jean reacted with shock and dismay when she heard the news of her son's violent death inside his own apartment.

Imam Omar Suleiman, an activist who attended demonstrations organised by the group Mothers Against Police Brutality, questioned why the officer was not being held.

"A blood sample was drawn to test for drugs and alcohol, we are in the process of obtaining a warrant, and we have also invited the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation", she said, referring to the state law enforcement agency.

"We still have a lot to do in this investigation". He earned a bachelor's degree at Harding University in Arkansas.

Jean was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
