Lindsey Graham once warned the Republican Party would be "destroyed" if it nominated Trump, cautioned the president against removing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation, and dismissed his incendiary rhetoric about a deep-state conspiracy against him.

"Our Justice Department and our Federal Bureau of Investigation - at the top of each, because inside they have incredible people - but our Justice Department and our Federal Bureau of Investigation have to start doing their job and doing it right and doing it now", Trump said.

"I'll see what happens", Trump told Bloomberg.

As for Mueller - whose investigation Trump called "illegal" in the Bloomberg interview - 63 percent of respondents support his investigation while 29 percent oppose. "Good job Jeff." In response, Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse said, "The United States is not some banana republic with a two-tiered system of justice-one for the majority party and one for the minority party", in a rebuke of the president and a member of his own party.

"What's happening is a disgrace, and at some point ... if it doesn't straighten out properly ..."

The website, which conducted an Oval Office interview with the president Thursday, reported that Trump declined to comment when asked if he'd keep Sessions on beyond November. Sessions recused himself from the probe a year ago, prompting harsh and continuous criticism by the president.

"Knowing him as I do, I don't think he'll quit", Inhofe said Tuesday by telephone from Washington. Now Graham believes Trump should fire Sessions. He charged that Mueller's probe was "highly conflicted" and that "real corruption goes untouched".

Last summer, Graham said there would be "holy hell to pay" if Sessions was sacked, but this week, he said the relationship between Trump and Sessions "is not working".

Trump hasn't been pushing his case just with Republican senators: He's worn down his lawyers, too, according to two Republicans close to the White House.
