‘Collusion Is Not a Crime’

U.S. President Donald Trump declared Tuesday "collusion is not a crime", as he continued his attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into links between between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation.

"Collusion is not a crime, but that doesn't matter because there was No Collusion (except by Crooked Hillary and the Democrats)!", Trump said on Twitter.

On Tuesday, he echoed his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who said in television interviews on Monday that collusion is not a crime.

Trump's attorney later said on the Fox News program "Outnumbered" that the president did not collude with the Russians but "even if he did it, it's not a crime".

CNN reported last Thursday that Mr Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen is prepared to tell federal investigators that Mr Trump knew and approved of the Trump Tower meeting where a Russian lawyer with links to the Kremlin was expected to deliver damaging information about Hillary Clinton. "The president didn't hack", Giuliani said. "He didn't pay them for hacking".

"Collusion is basically a partnership in crime, which is conspiracy", said Randall Eliason, a former federal prosecutor and a law professor at George Washington University.

Giuliani added that the Russian Federation probe "has been continued as an illegitimate investigation".

Giuliani called the disgraced former Trump Organization attorney one of the "biggest liars in America".

Both approaches were rubbished by Giuliani on Monday.

Manafort was charged with conspiracy and other offenses related to the millions of dollars he allegedly made working for the Ukrainian government many years before he worked for the Trump campaign.

Of course, whether or not Trump was there is not the question.

While the main areas of Mueller's investigation are Russia's actions during the 2016 presidential election and any attempts by Trump to obstruct justice, none of those topics are expected to come up in Manafort's trial.

"He erased them, sure", he said, adding that the Trump legal team has "experts going through it". Camerota asked Giuliani about a "contentious business relationship" that Trump claims to have had with Mueller-possibly over a membership dispute the two reportedly had regarding one of Trump's golf properties.

But the U.S. lawyer snapped back in sarcasm and said: "Oh yeah, you scared me away".
