Barcelona have swooped to sign Brazilian forward Malcom on a five-year deal from Girondins Bordeaux for an initial 41 million euros ($47.89 million) in a surprise move after AS Roma had struck a deal with the French club.

The La Liga champions posted four photos of the 21-year-old carrying out his medical on Wednesday morning on Twitter.

"This is a unique feeling, a unique feeling", he said at Barca's Nou Camp offices on Tuesday. "It's a dream come true since I was young". "I'm part of the best club in the world and I hope to give the fans a lot of joy".

Speaking to the Roma website on Tuesday in an effort to explain what had transpired, sporting director Monchi said that the club were considering the pursuit of a legal case - despite the lack of any signatures rubber-stamping the deal between the Giallorossi and Bordeaux.

Documents had been exchanged between Roma and Bordeaux before the Italian side were forced to increase their offer as Barca submitted an improved bid.

# Bordeaux and Roma confirmed an agreement has been reached to sign Malcom. Thirty minutes after the agreement with Bordeaux, my President called me telling me that it was better for them to make an official statement about the agreement. The President said he needed the documents signed with the new offer and, when I sent it to him, he said Malcom would arrive the day after. "I can't wait to get started". I'm really looking forward to meeting my team-mates, to talk to them and find out more about the way we play.

"Within the club, we are looking at our options and seeing if we have a legal case", Monchi told Roma TV.

Monchi does not seem a happy man and given the fact that he mentioned the messages he received from Malcom's agent and Bordeaux's president, it seems like he is willing to take legal recourse.

Media reports said Malcom's change of destination came after Barca's move for fellow Brazilian forward Willian broke down when they were unable to agree on a transfer fee with Chelsea, leading them to turn to Bordeaux's fleet-footed wide forward.

Barcelona have already announced the signing of Malcom even though the player is only going to have his medical today.

Malcom scored 12 goals and registered eight assists in 38 appearances for Bordeaux in Ligue 1 last season - the French club thanking him for his "hard work and commitment" and wishing him "all the best for this new adventure".

Malcom, following deals for Arthur Melo and Clement Lenglet, becomes Barca's third signing of the summer.
