Paul was responding to a question about remarks Trump made to CBS News suggesting he would raise the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their summit in Helsinki, Finland, on Monday.

Trump also said in the interview that he had given no thought to asking Putin to extradite the dozen Russian military intelligence officers indicted this past week in on charges related to the hacking of Democratic targets in the 2016 United States presidential election.

"The stories you heard about the 12 Russians yesterday took place during the Obama Administration, not the Trump Administration", Trump wrote.

"But they're going, 'Will President Trump be prepared?"

Thousands of people gathered in Helsinki on Sunday to protest against the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Finnish capital.

The president also told CBS News that he "hadn't thought" about asking Putin to extradite the dozen Russian military intelligence officers indicted this past week in Washington on charges related to the hacking of Democratic targets in the 2016 United States election, but said that "certainly I'll be asking about it".

Trump plans to meet one-on-one with Putin at the start of their first formal summit talks in Helsinki, Finland, before allowing other aides to participate.

All this has understandably fueled speculation that something very unusual is going on between Trump and Putin, something beyond the president's reflexive admiration for autocrats.

While Trump's administration has been tough on Russia over Ukraine - sending lethal arms to the Ukrainian government, expanding sanctions on Russians for their involvement, and supporting the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which monitors the war - Trump has expressed doubts.

Trump is set to meet with Putin in Helsinki on Monday.

Mr. Trump added that his Republican Party had also been the target of Russian hacking efforts but had superior cybersecurity measures in place.

Trump accuses Strzok of lying and making up excuses. And, as he has continued to assail traditional American allies for (supposedly) treating the USA unfairly, he has consistently given Putin the benefit of the doubt, insisting that he believes his unconvincing denials of election meddling.

During the summit briefing, Mr Ushakov challenged United States officials to offer proof to back the ongoing allegations of Russian interference, adding that Mr Putin has proposed setting up a joint working group on cybersecurity to look into the issue.

The indictment identifies the defendants as officers with Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff, also known as GRU.

"The U.S.is "not yet seeing the kind of electoral interference in specific states and in voter databases that we experienced in 2016" by the Kremlin", Coats said.

The Russian defendants are not in custody, and it is not clear they will ever appear in an American court. The 12 defendants allegedly took part in Russia's "sustained effort" to hack Democrats' emails and computer networks. "Biggest problem in the world", Trump said on Friday.

"Speaking to CBS News, Trump said that nothing bad" and "maybe some good" would come out of the meeting.

The indictments, announced as the President was visiting Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, prompted a joke, not a condemnation, from Trump, even though he was briefed in advance that the charges were coming. Among those targeted was John Podesta, the Clinton campaign chairman.

Speeches were being delivered later by artists, environmentalists and politicians. So Paul says "it'd be a moot point" for President Donald Trump to ask about it at their summit Monday. Guccifer 2.0 said it would be a "great pleasure" to help.

The president has repeatedly said the investigation into Russian election meddling is a "rigged witch hunt" that makes it hard for him to do substantive deals with Moscow.

Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on the conclusion that Russian Federation was behind the hacking and frequently derided special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible links between Russian Federation and his campaign as a "witch hunt". The US doesn't have an extradition treaty with Moscow and can't force the Russians to hand over citizens.
