US DoJ Charges 12 Russian Officials With Cryptocurrency-Funded Elections ‘Interference’
16 July, 2018, 04:07
The Justice Department's indictment of 12 Russian military intelligence agents on Friday was jaw-dropping in its scope and level of details into attempts to influence the 2016 United States presidential election.
On or around that day, according to the indictment, which was announced Friday, Russian actors sent phishing emails to accounts at a domain used by Clinton's personal office.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the indictments Friday, accusing the Russian intelligence officials of waging a sophisticated cyber operation to hack into emails of the Democratic National Committee, the campaign arm of the House Democrats and Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta. The Russians hit more than 300 people connected to the Clinton campaign and Democratic political groups.
Stone was an adviser to Trump during the campaign and has clearly been investigated by Mueller's team and the grand jury, after several of his business associates received requests for documents or to testify before the grand jury.
Stone maintained that the exchange was benign in his interview with CNN, and acknowledged he was in contact with Trump campaign officials.
In February, Mueller charged 13 Russians and three Russian companies in an elaborate conspiracy to interfere in the election.
The hackers then laundered the pilfered material through fake personas called DC Leaks and Guccifer 2.0, as well as others, to try to influence voters.
The dates and content of the messages described in the indictment between the USA person in regular contact with senior members of Trump's presidential campaign and Guccifer 2.0 match verbatim two screenshots Stone published on his website in March of 2017 of the direct message exchange he had with Guccifer 2.0 on Twitter in 2016.
"The internet allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways", Rosenstein said. "Time for Mueller to end this pursuit of the President and say President Trump is completely innocent", Giuliani said. "President Trump should cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russian Federation takes demonstrable and transparent steps to prove that they won´t interfere in future elections", Schumer said in a statement.
"According to the allegations in the indictment, the defendants worked for two units of the main intelligence directorate of the Russian general staff, known as the GRU".
"I will absolutely, firmly ask the question, and hopefully we´ll have a good relationship with Russian Federation", he told a press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
In particular, emails between Guccifer 2 and the organization believed to be WikiLeaks "suggest that the NSA (US National Security Agency) obtained access to either Guccifer 2's email account, Wikileaks' or both".
The White House seized on those points in a statement that offered no condemnation of Russian election interference. "This exchange is entirely public and provides no evidence of collaboration or collusion with Guccifer 2.0 or anyone else in the alleged hacking of the DNC emails". The defendants also used a third entity to release the stolen information.
He added: "The pressure that was put on these (international divers) was huge and they never dropped the ball for a second". Then the problem became how to get them back out through the tunnels, some completely full of fast-flowing flood water.
The previous longest semifinal match at Wimbledon was in 2013, when Djokovic beat Juan Martín del Potro in 4 hours, 44 minutes. After Isner saved a set point at 5-4 with a 129 mile-per-hour second serve, the match went, predictably, to a tiebreak.
David Cicilline, D-R.I., said he meant to release the transcript himself - and asked whether there was any reason he couldn't. Strzok told the Committee that FBI attorneys instructed him not to answer any questions about the ongoing investigation.
According to his itinerary, the US president will mostly stay away from London to avoid embarrassing protests. After leaving Chequers, Mr Trump travelled to Windsor Castle to have tea with Queen Elizabeth .
On Thursday, Strzok said the message was written late at night after Trump's campaign comments disparaging a slain US soldier. And Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman said, "I have never seen my colleagues so out of control, so angry".
Two British divers found them on July 2, squatting on a mound in a flooded chamber several kilometres inside the cave complex. He and and health permanent secretary Jedsada Chokdumrongsuk went to Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital to visit the 13 people.
The indictment says the agents transferred stolen Democratic Party documents to the GRU-leased IL computer in April, 2016 . News of the indictment came as Trump was meeting Queen Elizabeth II and just 72 hours before his meeting with Putin.
Trump said at a news conference in Brussels on July 12: "I know they're having a lot of problems and their economy is collapsing". Tel Aviv has warned Damascus of any kind of approaches towards the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel in 1967.
Lovren will be hoping he can avoid the same fate as Henry by leading Croatia to World Cup victory against France this Sunday. We've had this weight on our shoulders all the time, and now people will never forget us.
This is not inevitable for me, I had a really tough delivery and multiple surgeries and nearly didn't make it to be honest. I never thought about that". "In a way, it's by far the toughest, but in a way it's by far the best".
Warner wants more Americans in Trump-Putin meeting
The Russian defendants are not in custody, and it is not clear they will ever appear in an American court. The US doesn't have an extradition treaty with Moscow and can't force the Russians to hand over citizens.
Trade tariffs will harm the world
Since then, the president has said his administration could impose duties on virtually all Chinese imports into the U.S. The proposed new US tariffs follow the decision to impose duties in two stages on $50 billion in Chinese goods.
