Throughout each of the 156 nail-biting corner, Millen piloted the Bentayga with hairpin precision.

To celebrate the record, Bentley has announced a production run of 10 "Pikes Peak Bentayga" special editions. In fact, the last record was held for the last five years by Land Rover when driver Paul Dallenbach ran the same course in a 2014 Range Rover Sport in just 12:35.6; something that Millen beat by 1 minute and 45.7 seconds. The exterior is finished either in deep Beluga black paint or striking Radium, with 22-inch wheels in a bespoke two-tone finish of Beluga with Radium accents. Every piece of chrome is also replaced with black components, and carbon fiber adorns the splitter, side skirts, diffuser, and rear spoiler. Pirelli tires and a production-specification Akrapovic sports exhaust were also added. With the I.D. R Pikes Peak, Volkswagen has created an extraordinary racing auto, specifically tailored to the demands of the most famous of hill climbs: a combination of minimum weight, as much downforce as possible, and maximum power and designed to achieve the best possible performance.

Adaptive air suspension and Bentley's unique and world-first 48V electric active anti-roll control system (Bentley Dynamic Ride) ensure the flawless balance between refined ride comfort and optimum body control. There's no word on how much it added back in with the roll cage and fire-suppression system, but we'd wager the Pikes Peak record breaker was usefully lighter than stock. Subtle Pikes Peak motifs are seen on the front fenders. Inside the Pikes Peak Bentayga, Key Lime accents mesh with Beluga leather, Alcantara, and an Eliade cloth headliner. Bentley's iconic 6.0-litre twin turbo W12 provides 600 bhp and 900 Nm, fed through a ZF eight speed automatic transmission to permanent four-wheel drive.

The Pikes Peak Bentayga features a number of different elements compared with the standard SUV.

Although Bentley won't announce pricing until the auto goes on sale in Europe and the United States in August, it's fair to assume a hefty increase on the standard W12 car's £162,700.
