In a 43-second YouTube video originally shared to Reddit, a toddler being held by what appears to be his mother begins crying as a French speaking priest attempts to baptize him. The family remained quiet for a few moments after the incident, but then the baby is grabbed out of the priest's arms by the child's father.
The priest doesn't let go though, continuing to grasp the child's head as the father pulls him away before the video abruptly ends.
The video has gone viral, and leaving viewers understandably upset.
But the child continues to cry and the man raises his voice to say: "I will scream louder than you".
The outraged man and woman watching on, who appear to be his parents, react in shock and step in to snatch their baby back. "Slap. My Child. Imma show you that these hands can do more than show you that I'm praying [sic]".
Another added: "God forgive me, the priest was getting kicked up and down the chapel like a football if that was my child". But he soon loses his temper and hits the child in the face.
"And yet another reason why I'm not bringing up my kids as Catholics", wrote a Reddit user. "Or any family. This is prevalent around the world".
People in the background of the video can reportedly be heard protesting the priests actions, making comments like "no no no", "sir, he is scared" and "that's not legal/allowed".
