The image shows a two-year-old Honduran girl crying while her mother is searched and detained, and has become a visual centerpiece in the heated debate over USA policy on immigration and family separations.

The cover is for the July 2 edition of the magazine, which will appear on newsstands the week of Independence Day.

The issue carries the simple coverline, "Welcome to America".

Even though Trump has now signed an executive order that should, for the time being, prevent such separations, there are still serious issues that remain, including reuniting families already separated by the heinous policy as well as what the Trump administration's long game is.

The photo of the little girl was taken by John Moore, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer for Getty Images.

"As a father myself, it was very hard for me to see these families detained, knowing that they would soon be split up", Moore told Getty's blog Foto.

He said: 'My daughter has become a symbol of the ... separation of children at the USA border'.

Julianne Moore, Kathy Griffin, Katie Holmes, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Laura Dern are just a few of the celebrities who have shared the powerful image, which features a photo of a 2-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother was being detained in McAllen, Tex.

"[The mother] was told to set the child down while she was searched". "I fear they were split up".

"I've worked in this business for many years and oftentimes we cover stories that we think are really important but in the end they may not resonate with the public", said Moore.

A Time story recounting the photographer's experience initially stated the girl was carried away screaming by border agents, and later corrected the article to say that was incorrect and that the two were actually taken away together. I asked her, why?

First lady Melania Trump visited an immigration detention facility on Thursday. The magazine refuted his story, saying that's not how it chooses people. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is executing the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy towards undocumented immigrants.
