When Melania Trump met with detained children at the Texas border on Thursday, she struck a compassionate tone, asking staff at the facility: "How I can help. these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible?" "Do U?" on the back as she returns to Washington from a visit to the U.S. -Mexico border area in Texas, at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, U.S., June 21, 2018. While visiting with the children, she did not wear the jacket.

The jacket is made by Zara and costs $39, according to the Daily Mail. She was told the children there, most of whom are between the ages of 12 and 17, are usually "distraught" when they first enter. "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message", Grisham said.

Hours later President Donald Trump chimed in and claimed that the jacket message refers to "fake news". "Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she not longer cares!"

Somehow Melania's meme'd outerwear is more believable than what she actually wore.

The jacket elicited a number of reactions on social media. She also said the first lady's visit with the children in Texas "impacted @flotus greatly".

Melania Trump's itinerary includes visits to two sites in McAllen, Texas - a detention centre housing children separated from their parents and an intake facility for apprehended parents and children.

Amnesty International declared it was "shook by the blatant lack of empathy" and offered to send the First Lady a "This is What a Human Rights Defender Looks Like" T-shirt to wear instead.

"She wanted to see everything for herself", Grisham said.

This visit was an attempt to lend support to those caring for the immigrant children, although Trump did not make a public statement about the plight of separated families until this past Sunday. "And, I'm going to guess this is one message she did not steal from Michelle Obama". The idea that Melania just grabbed any old jacket without regard to how people might interpret it goes against literally everything we know about her.

Grisham had earlier bashed the media for paying so much attention to Melania Trump's sartorial choices.

In the past, the First Lady has worn designs by Christian Dior, Givenchy and Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, often paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.
