"Nobody knows how much we are paying for this monstrosity that's been created over the years", he said.

A US Border Patrol agent can be heard mocking the youngsters, saying: "Well, we have an orchestra here. And like a majority of Americans, we are appalled that your Zero Tolerance policy has resulted in the unnecessary trauma and suffering of innocent children".

But a defiant Trump has vowed America will not become a "migrant camp".

Hurd expressed support for both executive and legislative action to stop family separations. "And then so my mom can come as soon as possible?"

American University professor of government, Jennifer Lawless, said Mrs Trump's intervention in the debate was unusual for a first lady. "Rather, its implementation and its execution are taking place exclusively at your direction, and the unfolding tragedy falls squarely on your shoulders".

While Democrats like Nancy Pelosi blasted such treatment as "barbaric" and some Republicans also voiced concerns, Nielsen and other Trump administration officials have said the separations are necessary to enforce immigration laws, and that it falls to Congress to change the laws.

The opposition Democratic party leadership and rights activists have intensified their attack on Trump over his controversial immigration policy of separating children from their parents who illegally enter the US.

Microsoft is not working with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement or US Customs and Border Protection on any projects related to separating children from their families at the border, and contrary to some speculation, we are not aware of Azure or Azure services being used for this objective.

The new Trump administration policy, which went into effect in May, sought to maximize criminal prosecutions of people caught trying to enter the United States illegally. "It is immoral. And it breaks my heart", wrote Bush in an opinion piece. Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said she believes "we need to be a country that follows all laws", but also one "that governs with heart".

Republicans in Congress and the administration have pointed to a 1997 court settlement regarding the treatment of immigrant children in federal custody for legal justification of the Attorney-General's new policy. The administration has the power to rescind this policy.

House GOP leaders are revising their legislation amid a public outcry over the administration's "zero tolerance" approach to illegal crossings.

Almost 2,000 children were separated from their families over a six-week period in April and May after Mr Sessions announced a new "zero-tolerance" policy that refers all cases of illegal entry for criminal prosecution.

Stories have spread of children being snatched away from their parents' arms, and parents not being able to find where their kids have gone.

And the administration cites the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act, which makes a first illegal entry into the USA a misdemeanor. Jesus said, "Suffer the little children unto me".

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, in her role from 1977 to 1981, was the final one to voice her opinion when she released a statement on Monday that recalled her experience with Cambodian refugees fleeing to Thailand.

The Trump administration's new policy is not simply to arrest everyone caught crossing the border in between ports of entry. In reality, contrary to Trump's tweet, Germany's overall crime rate is at its lowest since 1992, its interior minister said in May.
