Ajinkya Rahane Wins Hearts With His Sporting Gesture After India-Afghanistan Clash

With the win, India became the first Asian team to win a Test match inside two days. After being enforced follow-on in the second-innings, Afghanistan were once again skittled out and this time for 103 runs in 38.4 overs in the third session.

In December 2017, Zimbabwe were made to play a four-day away Test against South Africa as a new experiment in cricket to make it more viable in the age of the super-short but yet, the Zimbabweans were annihilated within two days by an innings and 120 runs. And this is not first time that two innings are over in one day.

Ajinkya Rahane collected the Winner's trophy, on team India's behalf, and what happened next could well be written in cricket's history books.

When Afghanistan started playing worldwide cricket they were rather inconsistent, unable to adapt when things weren't going to plan.

KL Rahul (54) and Cheteshwar Pujara (35) also made significant contributions before Afghanistan bowlers fight back as India lost five wickets for 99 runs in 32 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin (4-27) then claimed four wickets to easily break Afghanistan's resistance in an innings spanning just 27.5 overs, while Ravindra Jadeja and paceman Ishant Sharma took two wickets each. Glad that they have chosen to play the historic match with India. The team should have been given more time. "If they can get mentally tough and fine tune their technique, it will be good", said Rahane.

He thus became the holder of the record of the most expensive bowler in the debut Test.

Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai said he was surprised by the margin of the defeat, but added that the team, with their new glowing red Test caps, would "learn lessons" from the loss.

"The more matches they play, the more they will learn".

Brief scores: India 474 bt Afghanistan 109 (Ashwin 4/27) & 103 (Jadeja 4/17).

It was the same mental aspect of the game that cost Afghanistan in this game, according to Simmons."I will blame 30 per cent on the occasion", he said when asked about it but added,"And I blame a lot more on the naivety of what Test cricket is about". With the top three laying the foundation, he was expected to make the most of a tiring Afghanistan attack, but that wasn't to be and the batsman would surely be disappointed with his display. While it is good to keep hitting an area outside the off-stump to induce a false shot from the batsman, hitting the seventh stump line ensured that even the inexperienced Afghanistan batsmen managed to happily see them go to the keeper. After first innings, they were trying to hang around and stick to the wicket.

Shahidi was unbeaten at the end after facing 88 balls, including six boundaries.

"We are not taking it on ourselves, there was a lesson to be learned", he said. "That is the best way to close this (domestic and worldwide cricket) gap", he added.

For Afghanistan, pacer Yamin Ahmadzai was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while fellow quick Wafadar and wrist spinner Rashid Khan chipped in with two wickets each.
