Trump celebrates birthday during lunch with Singapore PM Lee

The world is crossing its fingers.

Before boarding the Air Force One flight to Singapore, Trump said: "At a minimum, I do believe we will have met each other".

Kim also gets an "obvious and immediate win" by simply meeting with Trump, writes Joseph Yun, who was the top US diplomat on North Korea until March.

After a flurry of contacts between the two Koreas, South Korean officials suggested to Trump in March that Kim would be willing to meet face-to-face. As a part of that process, he also announced a suspension of nuclear and missile tests and the dismantlement of a key atomic testing facility that was carried out last month.

Trump is expected to meet Lee on Monday. The Trump administration also launched the so-called "maximum pressure" campaign that sought to choke North Korea with sanctions.

"I think we should take some optimism from that reporting", the official said.

During his preparation period, Trump continued on Monday to publicly brawl on Twitter with USA allies over trade. "But they just stopped right before they crossed that line".

Another possibility from the summit is a deal to end the Korean War, which North Korea has long demanded, presumably, in part, to get U.S. troops off the Korean Peninsula and, eventually, pave the way for a North Korean-led unified Korea.

While North Korea spoke of establishing a new "permanent peace-keeping mechanism" and its state-run news agency hailed a "new era" in relations with the US, Trump tweeted about how pleased he was to be in Singapore.

He explained that he gave the North Korean official Trump's book, "Art of the Deal", while he was in North Korea. However, it can not be the only topic of discussion between Trump and Kim.

The security has been further tightened in Singapore following the arrival of United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to participate in the "historic summit" on June 12.

The KCNA report was unusual in its clarity, mentioning the "historic first summit meeting and talks" between Kim and Trump. Why only potentially? That's because these two world leaders are not, strictly speaking, known to be very diplomatic - that is to say that they are in no manner of speaking, known to be very diplomatic at all. Any deal would likely depend on North Korea's willingness to open its facilities for inspection.

"Because of difficulties finding a job these days, I have lost much interest in those things". We all want diplomacy to succeed. In fact, the president has said that he doesn't need to gear up for the summit.

Both men have shown a predilection for grasping the palms of their fellow leaders, Trump with the likes of French President Emmanuel Macron and, more awkwardly, with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

He said there are hundreds of experts in relevant fields working to make sure North Korea makes good on any promises.

Fifth, photo opportunities must be encouraged, not dismissed. "Thanks to your honest efforts. we were able to complete the preparation for the historic summit".

A more middle-of-the-road result could be for statements about denuclearization followed by more high-level negotiations.

"Even the Agreed Framework, we knew it failed in 2002 for sure, but for a long time we thought it was successful", Terry said.

The fighting ended on July 27, 1953, but the war technically continues today because instead of a difficult-to-negotiate peace treaty, military officers for the US-led United Nations, North Korea and China signed an armistice that halted the fighting.
