President Donald Trump arrived late for a gender equality meeting at an global summit, prompting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to kick it off without waiting for "stragglers" to arrive.

In an extraordinary set of tweets aboard Air Force One, on its way to Singapore for next week's summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, Trump lashed out just as Canada released the G-7's official communique.

Trump also tweeted that Trudeau had acted "so meek and mild" during their meetings and that his tough talk later is "dishonest & weak". Mr. Trump declared tariffs were the most important topic at the G7 summit, blasting ally nations for what he sees as them taking advantage of the U.S. He said other nations have been treating the U.S. like the "piggy back that everybody's robbing". Trump insisted. "That would be the ultimate thing, whether or not that works, but I did suggest it".

"What worries me most, however, is the fact that the rules-based worldwide order is being challenged, quite surprisingly not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor, the USA". The noise of Trump's helicopter landing was so loud they had to stop talking for a while, in a scene one official compared to the opening from the USA television series M.A.S.H.

Trump said that would be a bad idea.

Reacting to Trump's tweets, Trudeau's office said: "We are focused on everything we accomplished here at the summit. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!"

Trudeau said he would not cave to Trump's trade demands, even if it meant a full-blown trade war.

A photo tweeted by the German government spokesman, @RegSprecher, captured the mood, showing a seated Trump, arms crossed, surrounded by other leaders standing over him.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said. "Tariffs will come way down".

In his press conference, Trudeau had spoken of retaliatory measures that Canada would take next month in response to Trump's decision to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

The communique said the leaders of the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan agreed on the need for "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade" and the importance of fighting protectionism.

Still, the U.S. and European Union will establish a dialog on trade within the next two weeks, signaling a modest step forward for the bitterly divided allies of the G7.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron were especially vocal ahead of Trump's arrival.

In a news conference at the G7 summit in La Malbaie before leaving for Singapore to meet with the North Korean leader, Trump is reiterating his contentious case that Russian Federation should be re-invited back into the G7 because a G8 would be more meaningful. Mr. Trump also warned that retaliating against the US tariffs would be a "mistake", suggesting that the USA might just not deal with countries who fail to treat the U.S.at his standards.
