A Kim Jong Un lookalike said Friday he was questioned on arrival in Singapore ahead of a historic US-North Korea summit and told to stay away from sites linked to the event.

The upcoming meeting will be held at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore, the White House confirmed. North Koreans did not take it kindly when US Vice President Mike Pence talked of "Libya model" approach towards North Korea.

When asked about a potential invite to the U.S. for Kim Jong-un, Mr Trump said: "Yes, certainly if it goes well and I think it would be well received".

Trump is preparing for the summit and taking it very seriously, said a senior White House official who asked not to be identified, "but locking himself away and doing what's been done in the past clearly hasn't worked". It's about the attitude.

"As has the other side..."

French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have presented a united front against what they have deemed as Trump's protectionist trade measures, particularly his decision late last month to impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union. "So this isn't a question of preparation; it's a question of whether or not people want it to happen, and we'll know that very quickly".

Mr Trump said that even though the talks are subject to change, he hopes they go ahead. "Well, it's gonna be much more than a photo-op".

He said: "I did it once before".

"I will provide an update and underscore the importance of implementing all sanctions imposed on North Korea", Pompeo told reporters at the White House.

With missile tests, nuclear threats and ruthless destruction of opponents, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been an ominous presence hanging over the South. They've got a lot of enemies out there.

"Maybe we'll start with the White House". And that's something very important toward the ultimate making of a deal, he said.

The Trump administration has said it will keep sanctions in place against Pyongyang until a complete denuclearization of North Korea is achieved. "They have to denuke". "If they don't denuclearize, that will not be acceptable. It's what happens after the agreement that really is the big point", he said.

"By the way, with Iran, we're adding tremendously powerful sanctions". I think he would look at it very favorably. "So, it's a big difference".

As recently as 2013, more than 100 people were arrested under the law, although the U.S-government funded Freedom House says that number dropped to seven a year ago. "We are going to travel there", the US Secretary of State said. And he says the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula would lead to prosperity and peace for "all Koreans".

Christopher Hill, the lead USA negotiator with North Korea during the George W. Bush administration, said a summit with the North had always been available to US leaders. Perhaps I can get approval to put it out. "We said we're not going to have a summit under those circumstances". An earlier Gallup Korea survey conducted after the April summit showed that 65 percent of respondents had a more favorable view of Kim after the summit than before. North Korea apparently wants the same type of plane as Trump's Air Force One. "But one thing I can say is that Japan and the United States are always together", Abe said. More than 2,500 people from the local and worldwide news media are expected to cover the event in Singapore, according to the number of registrations received by the ministry of communications and information.

The summit is due to be held following a rapid detente between Pyongyang and Washington - as well as South Korea - in a turn-around from an escalation of tensions previous year, when the North ratcheted up its weapons programme.

The two options: Seek a freeze on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs through direct engagement, or increase pressure on North Korea through China.
