A large commercial satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket flew for the second time following a blast on Monday at Cape Canaveral.

SES-12 is capable of broadcasting and providing broadband data services focused on the high-growth Asia-Pacific region.

The new platform will join SES-8 at 95 degrees East and will replace and augment the services now being provided on SES' NSS-6 satellite. It will replace and augment the services now being provided on SES's NSS-6 satellite.

The SES-12 satellite is able to carry more communications loads as it carries very little chemical fuel, which is used by most spacecraft to maneuver and hold their positions.

"Airbus salutes SES' ambitions regarding innovation and responsiveness in a rapidly changing market and we acknowledge their strong support for all-electric satellite technology", said Nicolas Chamussy, Head of Space Systems. According to Space.com, Musk and his company are trying to develop rockets and spacecraft that can be quickly reused in an attempt to lower the cost of space exploration. This process is expected to last about four-to-six months. The good side of all this is it actually extends our (on orbit) life capability from 15 to 22 years.

SpaceX successfully launched a rocket into the night sky about a half hour after midnight Monday morning, deploying a European company's satellite, SES 12, with no apparent problems. Its communications payload incorporates multi-beam antennas linked to a digital signal processor, which enable a multitude of basic spectral channels to be allocated to various beams in a completely flexible manner.

"We get a lot of performance from this vehicle", Martin Halliwell, chief technical officer of SES, said of the Falcon 9.

This is actually confirmation of something we already more-or-less knew. After extensive tests and checkout, SES-12 should enter operational service early next year.
