Trump says he’s considering pardoning Martha Stewart, Rod Blagojevich

Trump pardons Dinesh D’Souza, conservative agitator who pleaded guilty to campaign finance fraud Trump to pardon Dinesh D'Souza

President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday he will pardon conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza, who pleaded guilty to illegally funneling campaign funds to the 2012 Republican challenger to Sen.

Two prominent Indian Americans, representing two different political ideologies - Preet Bharara and Dinesh D'Souza - engaged in a bitter war of words on Twitter today after Mr. D'Souza was pardoned by President Donald Trump for violating federal campaign laws. The Democrat was convicted of plotting to sell a U.S. Senate appointment after former President Barack Obama vacated his seat to move to the White House.

Attorneys Deborah Blum and Seth Berenzweig on President Trump considering pardons for Martha Stewart and Rod Blagojevich and the fallout from ABC canceling Roseanne. Trump said she was "unfairly treated" and "used to be my biggest fan in the world".

The United States Constitution gives the president the ability to "grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States".

D'Souza claimed during the case that he was being unfairly prosecuted by federal prosecutors, but the judge ruled that he had provided no evidence to support this.

Preet Bharara, the Indian American US attorney for the Southern District of NY was one of the led prosecutors in that case. "Giuliani mentioned her case when discussing why they refuse an interview". Trump said Johnson had served 10 months in prison "for what many view as a racially motivated injustice".

"The FBI did it to signal to the Obama Justice Department and its stooges that I was a political enemy they might want to prosecute". "If you read his statement it was a foolish statement there was a lot of bravado ... but it does not ... plenty of other politicians have said a lot worse".

"Mr. D'Souza accepted responsibility for his actions", it said.

Mr. D'Souza is the author of almost 20 books and producer of four movies, with the latest one being "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party".

D'Souza, an author and filmmaker, was indicted on charges that he illegally used straw donors to contribute to a Republican Senate candidate in NY in 2012.

Schaub was far from alone in seeing nefarious motives in the pardon - along with other pardons Trump has not even granted but has publicly mulled, such as for businesswoman Martha Stewart and former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

D'Souza called it a "vindictive political hit" by then-President Barack Obama, former Attorney General Eric Holder and former NY federal prosecutor Preet Bharara, which was meant to destroy his career.

The appearance came as Trump appears to be considering whether he will pardon Blagojevich, who was found guilty on seventeen charges, including conspiracy to solicit bribes. "The career prosecutors and agents did their job". "Then he got fired & I got pardoned", D'Souza wrote. But because there were pending requests at the end of the Obama administration, the total number of requests for pardons pending before Trump is 2,271 and 8,932 for commutation.
