Manchester United are expected to sign Porto right-back Diogo Dalot after activating the 20million euro (£17.44million) release clause in his contract.

He has enjoyed a fine season yet again this term and Sport are reporting that Premier League giants United and Chelsea are keen.

Dalot will compete with Antonio Valencia for the right-back slot at Old Trafford. He completed all of the 0-0 draw at Liverpool in the Champions League last-16 second leg in March as Porto were knocked out 5-0 on aggregate.

His current deal runs out at the end of next season and it contains a €20m release clause, which Manchester United are prepared to trigger to take him to England this summer. Deployed in an unfamiliar role as the left-back - the player is a natural at right-back - Dalot seemed unfazed by the step up and put in credible shifts.

Diogo Dalot is close to joining Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been tracking the 19-year-old for months and Mourinho is closing in on the defender.

It is expected that United will make around five signings this summer, with a raft of players, probably including Marouane Fellaini, leaving as Mourinho revamps his squad.

José Diogo Dalot Teixeira, known as Dalot was in October voted as Porto's Young Player of the Year and is rated as one of the best young talents in world football.

Dalot can also play in midfield and at left-back, the position he has operated in primarily for Sérgio Conceição's side.
