Cyclone Mekunu hit southern Yemen and the coast of neighbouring Oman over the weekend, resulting in several fatalities.

The nation's other dams include Al Hemayah, which received 29 million cubic metres, and Shako Dam in Rakyhoot, which recorded 3000 cubic metres of water.

India's Meteorological Department said the storm packed maximum sustained winds of 170-180 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 200 kph.

Flash flooding tore away whole roadways and submerged others in Salalah, Oman's third-largest city, stranding drivers. The Arabian Sea churned yesterday morning, sending mounds of sea foam into the air.

"The fourth is a young Omani man who was swept away in his vehicle by flooding", he added.

The cyclone killed around seven people on the Yemeni island of Socotra on Friday.

Rains are expected to continue for two more days, drenching the area with more than 100 millimeters (four inches) of rain, nearly six times its annual average, Amman-based weather experts WASM said on Twitter.

Three wounded Asians were rescued and civil defence teams said they had saved hundreds of people including 260 foreign sailors trapped at sea.

Water from the rain and storm-surges flooded normally dry creek beds.

Five Yemenis and two Indian sailors were confirmed dead when Mekunu hit Socotra in war-torn Yemen on Thursday, causing heavy damage, Yemen's fisheries minister Fahad Kafin said.

Governor of al-Mahra province, Rageh Bakrit said strong winds have blown down houses in the country's far east, along the border with Oman.
