The Houston Rockets, playing without injured All-Star point guard Chris Paul, waltzed into Golden State Saturday and punched the Warriors in the mouth to the tune of a 39-22 first-quarter lead in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals. The Rockets went 15-9 without Paul during the regular season - 15-6 when probable MVP James Harden and blossoming star center Clint Capela both played - but were blown out by the Warriors in Game 6 despite building an early 17-point lead. Then they got outscored by Golden State's Splash Brothers in the second half, when Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry combined for 37 points and the Rockets managed to put up only 25.

"I don't want to go home", said Thompson, who made nine three-pointers.

The Warriors showed signs of life in the second quarter, putting together a 23-11 scoring run and trimming the deficit to five points. And roaring Oracle Arena went insane with hopes of even more home games to come if Golden State can get to a fourth straight finals.

While touring China, Klay Thompson's alter ego took the National Basketball Association world by storm last summer after the Warriors' second title in three years, partly because this isn't the Klay Thompson we get to see on a regular basis.

"Everybody feels more nerves, for sure", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Sunday night, on the eve of Game 7 against the Rockets.

Of course, the Warriors have had health issues of their own in the series, with Andre Iguodala having missed Games 4 and 5 with a bruised left knee. "It was really nerve-racking at the beginning and we didn't think that they were going to do it but they pulled it off", said Mountain View Warriors fan Suny Bates. I remember one time actually losing a game against the Nuggets and leaving the arena in my uniform I was so mad.

Kevin Durant is arguably the best pure scorer in the game, but his ability to be such a threat late in games has come into question lately. "We're still confident. We're a confident group, and we've just got one chance". "But at this point it's all hands on deck obviously, and you never know how the game is going to play out". We're going to do what we've got to do to win this game.

They might be able to do it all the way to a fourth consecutive NBA Finals. They were committing careless turnovers. "We've got too much talent not just to hit singles like Coach always says".

Thompson came through with his best performance of the playoffs with the season on the line, just as he did in Game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference finals at Oklahoma City when he scored 41 points against Durant and the Thunder to force Game 7.

That's what happened in Game 6.
