A teenager, 13, and an adult teacher are both in critical condition after a male shooter opened fire at Noblesville West Middle School in IN on May 25, according to a shocking new report.

Science teacher Jason Seaman tackled a student after he opened fire on his classmates.

He says the teacher "immediately ran at him, swatted a gun out of his hand and tackled him to the ground".

Seaman played at Southern Illinois from 2007 to 2010.

According to a Facebook post Friday afternoon by Seaman's mother, Kristi, he was shot three times - once in the abdomen, once in the hip, once in the forearm - but was "doing well" after surgery.

In a post on Twitter Indiana Police officer John Perrine said the suspect has since been taken into custody and the families of the victims have been notified.

"Sign of the times - school shootings are so normalized that *this* is what a parent of kids at the MIDDLE school in IN had to say about the shooting there: "This happens in high school, not here", Kaine tweeted".

"Karen and I are praying for the victims of the awful shooting in IN", he said.

Authorities say the suspect in a shooting at a suburban Indianapolis middle school shooting is a male student and the victims are a teacher and another student.

Higgins told WTHR-TV that her son was shaken up but that he knew little of what happened.

The students were taking a test in science class, and the suspect asked to be excused. As CNN reports, there are conflicting reports about how many people were injured in the shooting. "When it comes down to it, we come to the realization of 'What do we do?'" Barnes said, speaking of the ongoing investigation. The student hailed Seaman, who is also a football coach, as a hero.

Family members confirmed that the teacher is Jason Seaman.

"We were all hiding in the back of a classroom behind some desks, then [Seaman] was yelling to call 911, to get out of the building as fast as we could", the student told CBS affiliate WTTV.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible situation", he said, adding that about 100 State Police officers had been made available to work with local responders.

"I'm always telling my kids that I believe that they need to have daily school searches and not let them carry backpacks", she said. "To all the students, you are all wonderful and I thank you for your support". Her mom came to pick her up this morning. However, he did say that a local high school was being monitored by police because of a recent "threat" made against staff and pupils.

Noblesville, which is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people.

The middle school was on lockdown, but the all clear was given and the lockdown was lifted.
