SUMMIT COUNTY Bath Township - 18th Annual Memorial Day Observance, Monday, noon, at Bath Veterans Memorial Park, southeast corner of Cleveland-Massillon and Bath roads. The event includes free hot dogs, groceries, haircuts, clothing, kids activities, raffles and drawings.

On Memorial Day, all active duty military and veterans will also be able to eat for free from 11 a.m.to 11:30 p.m.at Hooters, 2660 JBS Parkway.

8 a.m. - Neoga American Legion Votaw-Swank Post 458 will honor all veterans within the boundaries of the Legion during a ceremony at the Neoga Veterans Memorial located at Jennings Park.

Fort Jennings - 11 a.m. memorial service at Mount Calvary Cemetery; 11:30 a.m. memorial service at Ottawa River Church; 12:30 p.m. memorial service at Rymer Cemetery; 1 p.m. memorial services at Fort Jennings Memorial Hall and St. Joseph Cemetery.

¯ The village of Celoron and the Celoron American Legion, Herman Kent Post 777, will be holding a Memorial Day service at the Veterans Memorial in Lucille Ball Memorial Park on Monday at 9 a.m.

The Navy Memorial, located at 701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, consists of a large plaza with a granite map of the world, the iconic Lone Sailor statue, 3,500 square-foot museum area, a 240-person theater, the Ship's Store which sells Navy memorabilia and the Navy Log, the nation's largest publicly available data base of sea service veterans.

Memorial Day, recognized on the last Monday in May, will fall on May 28 this year. Music starts at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

Keynote speaker will be Kevin Stitt, state gubernatorial candidate. Organizers say the ceremony, featuring the Grenadine Belles, will begin with an invocation, followed by a rifle salute by members of the Columbia Foot Dragoons. Sandwiches will be served at the Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post 7676 after the Memorial Day ceremony for a freewill donation. There also will be a flyover. The annual parade starts at 11 a.m.

Chatham: town of Chatham Memorial Day ceremony, 10 a.m., Community Center, 702 Main St. Participants will include members of Chatham VFW and American Legion, the Chatham Coast Guard Color Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Scout troops.

Additionally, visitors will be able to stop by booths set up by veteran-oriented organizations, on display starting at 9 a.m.

Maplewood: 10 a.m. Monday at Union Cemetery, 2505 E. Minnehaha Ave.

9 a.m. - Memorial Day program at Jewett Cemetery. 9 a.m. memorial service at the Pioneer Pavilion. Guest speaker Jay Horn, U.S. Army, who has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. Music will be provided by the combined Moscow Middle School and High School bands directed by Tom Garrett.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, the rows of headstones that mark the final resting place of over 400,000 USA service members should stand as reminders-as should all grave markers at each of our country's 135 national cemeteries-for us to take a moment to set aside our political caterwauling and focus on the objective of the solemn holiday: to honor the men and women who died in battle while serving in the USA military.

The annual Memorial Day service on the front lawn of the Kankakee County Courthouse will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Guest speaker Col. Christopher Busch, U.S. Marine Corps.

A Memorial Day program will be held at the cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday. Followed by a 90-minute cemetery tour led by historian Curtis Dahlin of burial sites that have a connection to the U.S. -Dakota War of 1862.

Chebanse American Legion Post 408 will host a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. Monday at the Chebanse Evergreen Cemetery.
