Highlighting the achievements of the Congress government ruling in the state said, the Congress chief said that the election is not about the Prime Minister or him, but about the future of Karnataka.

PM Modi will deliver his address in a public meeting at Navodaya Vidyala Ground, Kalaburagi at 12:30 pm, followed by another public meeting at Ballari District Stadium at 3:00 pm.

Further taking a dig at the Congress, the Prime Minister said, "We have seen the state being ruined for five years and we will no longer allow the state to be ruined further".

"No MSP+50%, for Karnataka farmers".

The tweet more or less set the tone for the political bickering that followed electioneering in the months ahead.

Udipi: Prime minister Narendra Modi indicated that BJP has kept a door open for rapprochement with Deve Gowda's JD (S), which is expected to emerge as a kingmaker in case the election throw up a hung assembly. Almost 14 lakh farmers in the State got benefits from the PMFBY scheme, he added.

Accusing the PM of being insensitive to the needs of farmers, Karnataka CM Siddharamaiah said, "I asked for farm loan waiver".

"It is our government that has made important decisions of MSP".

"You may not be able to speak the truth, but at least you can keep quiet, " Modi said. "For him, farmer welfare is a top priority", said the PM, referring to BJP's chief ministerial candidate.

Both the BJP and the Congress are aware of the potential Twitter holds and are invested in harnessing it as best as they can. "In 1948, after defeating Pakistan, General Thimayya was insulted by PM Nehru and Defence Minister Krishna Menon".

"From insulting Field Marshall Cariappa and General Thimayya to calling our Army Chief a "Sadak ka goonda" right after surgical strikes, they have consistently shown their disdain for our courageous heroes", he said. "It's Congress' nature to disrespect martyrs and freedom fighters". When our soldiers did surgical strikes, the shameless Congress party questioned the strikes.

"Helping and serving farmers is an opportunity that comes with good fortune, but the Karnataka Government's game is only to do politics in the name of farmers, instigate them, and spread false information", he said, asking the Kisan Morcha to combat the Congress's isinformation" campaign.

Seeking to appeal to patriotic sentiments of voters, the prime minister said that a Congress leader even called the Army chief a "goonda" (gangster) after the surgical strike.

The remark, which blew into a controversy in mid-2017, was also condemned by Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Senior BJP leaders, including its president Amit Shah, have often brought up the issue of Sonia's Italian origin while targeting her son.

Back in April 2014, when the BJP was campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, Modi had courted controversy by offering to put Deve Gowda in an old-age home.
