The deal is independent of Amazon HQ2, the company's search for a second headquarters city where it will establish an outpost equal to its original Seattle headquarters.

Amazon has unveiled plans for a major expansion in Boston's Seaport District. The city will grant Amazon the tax breaks over 15 years. This will allow the company to double its tech workforce in the Boston metropolitan area.

The corporate positions will focus on e-commerce, cloud-based systems and machine learning, according to Amazon, jobs which Klugen believes will only continue to increase in demand across the tech industry as more turn to cloud technologies.

Amazon will be expanding Vancouver's tech hub by opening a new headquarters in the city's downtown core. The new facility is in addition to Amazon's current offices in Vancouver that includes its 156,000 square-foot location in TELUS Garden which opened to Amazon employees in 2015. Additionally in Vancouver, the human resources technology team helps build the HR, recruiting and employee management software systems that support Amazon's global workforce of over 560,000 employees. Governor Charlie Baker said the deal highlights the state's vibrant innovation ecosystem, while Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh called it "a tremendous vote of confidence in our economy". To date, more than 16,000 Amazonians have utilized the job-retraining programs globally. Its new building, set to begin construction later this year and open in 2021, would mark the company's biggest presence to date, and comes as Amazon opens a new office in nearby Fort Point.

Amazon now employs 6,000 people in its Toronto and Vancouver Tech Hubs to the AWS infrastructure region in Montreal area and also at its fulfilment facilities in British Columbia and Ontario.

Additionally, as part of Amazon's ongoing commitment to the communities where our employees live and work, the company recently made a $1 million match offer to St. Mary's Center to support their efforts to create a new Community Resource Center on their Dorchester campus, and donated more than $100,000 to nonprofits throughout the state of MA. Customer reviews, 1-Click shopping, personalized recommendations, Prime, Fulfillment by Amazon, AWS, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Echo, and Alexa are some of the products and services pioneered by Amazon.

More from Bloomberg.com: U.S. Amazon has produced a list of requirements for the host city.
