Cricket Australia hopeful that India agree to day-night Test

Adelaide Oval won't host an ODI on Australia Day next year while the fate of the day-night Test remains in doubt Adelaide Oval won't host an ODI on Australia Day next year while the fate of the day-night Test remains in doubt

The Adelaide Oval was tipped to host India's first-ever day and night Test.

Earlier in February, Chaudhary was pulled up by the CoA for initiating a proposal for the day-night Test against the West Indies without consulting the latter and the stakeholders of Indian cricket. Since November 2015, Adelaide has hosted one day-night Test every year.

Women's worldwide cricket will bookend the summer, with Australia playing three T20Is against New Zealand in September-October - which leads into the women's World T20 in the West Indies in November - and then a three-match ODI series against the same opponents in February-March.

"The CoA spoke to Ravi Shastri (the Indian team head coach) on April 12 and Shastri categorically mentioned that he has consulted with the team and the team is not ready to play pink-ball cricket just now".

Talking about the structural changes in the global season in Australia this time around, Sutherland added: "Our men's worldwide season structure changes slightly this summer, with one-day and T20 global matches against South Africa and India in November".

However, with the players making their intentions clear, the question of playing the pink-ball Test in Adelaide doesn't arise, a CoA member told The Indian Express.

The Indian team management are also unwilling to experiment with the new format as they have their sights set firmly on the World Cup in 2019.

This rules out a home day-night Test against the West Indies in October as well, despite the fact that the Cricket West Indies had agreed to play one during their visit to India.

Cricket Australia is trying to convince India to begin its four-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a day-night game at Adelaide from December 6-10.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland talks during a news conference at a hotel, in Sandton, South Africa March 27, 2018.

In between, the Australia men's team will host a South African limited-overs tour in October-November, and full worldwide tours by India and Sri Lanka that stretch from mid-November to early February.

After the Test series, India will remain in Australia for three ODIs at the SCG, Adelaide Oval, and the MCG.

"The Gabba was that once and I'm sure it will be again. there's nothing to say that in the future the first test of an Ashes series won't continue to be at the Gabba".

However, Australian men's worldwide summer will start at Perth Stadium with an ODI between Australia and South Africa on November 4.

Exposure to pink-ball is a must before playing day-night cricket as the pink Kookaburra tends to swing quite a lot under the lights.

The newly built Perth Stadium will make its debut as a Test venue when it hosts the second Test.
