The national Assembly of Armenia did not support the candidate Nikol Pashinian for the post of Prime Minister.

At a meeting with the governing Republican party on Monday, as well as with the opposition bloc Way Out, Pashinyan said that a vote for him on Tuesday would be a vote for an end to the crisis.

This is reported by Armenian news.

Pashinyan spent Monday negotiating with all political forces, including the ruling Republican Party, whose support is paramount for his bid to become prime minister.

April 26 opposition parliamentary faction elk was nominated for the post of Prime Minister the candidacy of its Chairman Nikol Pashinyan.

However, local media outlets reported early on Tuesday that the sole candidate for the post has announced in a video message posted on his Facebook page that the Republican deputies have chose to thwart the scheduled vote.

But Pashinyan is still six votes short of the 53 he needs from the 105-seat legislature, where the Republican Party has a majority.

Shortly after the vote, Pashinyan left parliament and headed towards the square, where tens of thousands of his supporters were gathered.

Sargsyan had been president for a decade before becoming prime minister last month.

Speaking to lawmakers ahead of the vote, Pashinian said that "the Republican Party's attempts at thwarting this ballot will start a political tsunami".

The protest leader asked people to meet at Republic Square in the capital, Yerevan, to celebrate what he called "the public victory over hopelessness, emigration and uncertainty".

On Sunday, RPA faction head Vahram Bagdasaryan said that the party would not impede Pashinyan's election.

"A revolution of love and tolerance is continuing", he said, also urging people to turn out for a huge rally Wednesday evening as the crowds chanted "Nikol!"

Pashinyan's protest movement had accused ex-leader Sarkisian of a power grab, saying he had failed to tackle a litany of problems like corruption, poverty and the influence of oligarchs.
