Pashinyan said on Monday he discussed a "peaceful and legal settlement" of the crisis with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell.

Pashinyan promised that his first action in the case of appointment as Prime Minister will be the steps to prepare for early parliamentary elections.

Speaking to AFP in an interview, Pashinyan said Armenians themselves wanted to determine the future of their country and an explosion of tensions was just a matter of time. He urged supporters not to block traffic or to assemble outside the parliament building.

Protest leader Pashinian and his supporters can count on 47 votes in Parliament.
