Mo Farah has set a British record on Sunday by finishing third in the London Marathon with a time of 2hr 6min 21sec.

With the run, he has now shattered Steve Jones' 33-year-old British record.

The Olympic 5,000m champion, who was fourth in the event past year, finished ahead of compatriot Brigid Kosgei, with Tadelech Bekele of Ethiopia rounding out the top three.

Cheruiyot took advantage of failed attempts to break Paula Radcliffe's 15-year-old world record by last year's victor Mary Keitany and runner-up Tirunesh Dibaba.

Just over two hours later, it was the majestic Eliud Kipchoge who strode under the Finish Line first to become only the third triple London men's champion and cement his status as king of the roads.

As the race, started via a big red button from The Queen in Windsor, headed into its second half around Canary Wharf, Farah moved alongside Kipchoge and Kitata.

"The drink station was confusing, I was table four, I went to pick it up", Farah told the BBC. Elliott was fourth in the 18-39 age group in the hottest race in London's history, with temperatures well over 20 C. Her training partner Laurelly Dale was second, in 3:19:24, and Yvonne Mery third in 3:29:54.

"I can say we enjoyed the race". I just had to go with it and see what happened, and if you're gonna die you're gonna die.Eliud makes it look so easy.

However, Farah's afternoon did not get off to a good start when he was involved in a weird incident where he seemed to miss his drinks bottle around the 10-mile mark and had to turn back for it.

Fearnley went into the London race as the course record-holder (1:28:57 from 2009) but it was Britain's David Weir who claimed the glory as he crossed first for his eighth London Marathon title, storming home in a sprint finish ahead of Switzerland's Marcel Hug.

Vivian Cheruiyot savours her victory after winning an Olympics gold medal in 5,000m in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil previous year.

"The reason it was so good for me today was because I started slowly", Cheruiyot said.

Indeed, Keitany and Dibaba took the warm morning conditions with a brutal attack with some fast-pace backed up by four male pacesetters. "I want to thank everyone out there for their support".

Madison de Rozario of Australia secured a victory in the women's wheelchair race. The 38-year-old pipped Switzerland's Marcel Hug into second place, with Daniel Romanchuk of the United States third.
