The Sauk Rapids Police Department says the attacked happened shortly after 7 a.m.at Pleasantview Elementary School.

The incident lasted about 5 minutes and took place in a school hallway.

Beise said the boy was released to his parents. Current and former students joined together on April 15 at Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio to recognize the school's eight years of specialized service to children with autism. Police, ambulance and parents were called and responded. All three were treated and released from a local hospital, according to the Star Tribune in Minnesota. The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor's office.

According to Sauk Rapids Police Chief Perry Beise, the children had "superficial wounds to the backs of their heads that needed to be stitched up". Pleasantview has students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. After putting his backpack away, the second-grade student took out a knife and slashed three students with it, the superintendent said.

An area elementary school is closing at the end of the school year.

Close to 100 parents and students who have walked the halls of The Foundation School for Autism gathered for the school's first ever homecoming celebration. He said he didn't know if the boy had been bullied, or if he had mental health issues.

Watkins said the school made mental health counsellors available to students and staff. Classes went on as scheduled. Please know in situations like this the District's discipline policy is applied and aggressive students are not allowed in the building (s).
