Gianluigi Buffon has accused Michael Oliver of ruining the dreams of Juventus after the referee controversially awarded a late penalty in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Juventus legend Alessandro del Piero says Gianluigi Buffon might have gone a touch far in his emotional and colourful post-match rant about referee Michael Oliver in Madrid.

Real were beaten 3-1 by Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo slotting an injury-time penalty to advance 4-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0 in Turin.

"The referee gave a penalty and it's left a bitter taste in the mouth, but I don't want to talk about these incidents". "I said even at the time that incident would decide qualification".

In the most dramatic of circumstances, the Italian was given a red card moments before Cristiano Ronaldo slotted away from the penalty spot, but was it the correct decision?

Allegri was seen in conversation with Sergio Ramos, having walked over to Madrid's bench to speak to the suspended captain following the awarding of the penalty.

"I won't accept that a referee is in charge of a game like this with two such high-profile teams and doesn't have the character, courage or ability to make calm decisions".

"A human being can not decide the elimination of a team with such a decision".

"I don't understand why they are protesting", he said in quotes published by Marca.

Juventus' chairman Andrea Agnelli called for VAR to be introduced to the Champions League after his side's exit from the tournament.

"Clearly you cannot have a heart in your chest, but a trash can".

"Otherwise he [Michael Oliver] should be in the stands eating crisps, drinking Sprite, Coca-Cola or orange juice or whatever he wants". "The most important thing is we have the technology, it exists and is in use, so we have to bring it into the Champions League".

"I don't think that he deserves to go out in this way, but there's no going back on it now", the Frenchman said, according to Sportskeeda.

"We could've scored five or six goals, so we ought to be proud".

In a game that seemed to be heading for a fairly tale, it turned into a nightmare, and you could have forgiven the Italian for ignoring any Real player after the game.
