Colin Kaepernick snubbed by Seahawks after refusing to stop national anthem protests

DEC. 11 2016 FILE Colin Kaepernick is in the middle of a collusion case against the NFL over allegations that league owners have blackballed him

A final decision has yet to be made and the team still may decide to bring him in. Last October, when other National Football League owners (and a certain elected official in Washington D.C.) - were absolutely losing their minds over the anthem protests, team owner Paul Allen was praised by his players for letting them express themselves how and when they wished.

Schefter reports, "The source said the Seahawks wanted to know that Kaepernick wouldn't kneel this season, and he was unwilling to give that assurance to them".

Seattle has room on its roster for a backup quarterback after it cut Trevone Boykin in the wake of domestic violence allegations lodged against him by his longtime girlfriend.

Kaepernick has been a free agent since March of 2017, following a 2016 NFL season in which he created significant controversy as a member of the San Francisco 49ers by protesting inequality and police brutality against minorities by kneeling and sitting during the national anthem.

In October, Kaepernick registered a grievance instance accusing NFL owners of colluding against him to keep him out from their league under a collective bargaining arrangement.

Eric Reid often kneeled with Kaepernick when they played together in San Francisco. And, given the skill set of their starting quarterback, it's not that far fetched to think that Colin Kaepernick would be a great backup for them. Amidst an off-season that has been no fun at all for Seahawks fans (losing Michael Bennett and Richard Sherman as Earl Thomas trade rumors swirl and the Rams get better is... not great...) this feels like a new nadir. Therefore, he's still a free agent.

The Seahawks are no stranger to protests during the anthem. SB Nation, meanwhile, reports that the Seahawks told Kaepernick not to bother attending the workout if he planned to continue kneeling.

It's ironic that the Seahawks are experiencing the wrath of Kaepernick supporters despite being the only team that has seriously engaged the possibility of signing Kaepernick - not once, it seems, but twice.
