Last month the Saudi army intercepted seven missiles over Riyadh launched by the rebels.

The missile was shot down just hours after Saudi military brought down a Houthi-rebel drone at an worldwide airport in the southern city of Abha.

An Associated Press reporter in Riyadh heard three loud explosions overhead just before sunset Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia and a coalition of Muslim states intervened in Yemen's civil war in 2015 to try and push back the Houthis after they drove the internationally recognized government into exile in Riyadh.

Also on Wednesday, Saudi air defenses shot down two unmanned Yemeni drones in southern Saudi Arabia, a spokesman for the Riyadh-led coalition said.

Yemen's Houthis has stepped up missile attacks on the kingdom in what it says is retaliation for air raids by a Saudi-led coalition fighting the Iran-aligned armed movement.

Evidence documented by the Conflict Armament Research group, or vehicle, said the Qasef-1 drone appears to be Iranian-manufactured and has been supplied in batches to Houthi forces in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has accused Iran of funding and arming the rebel movement, a charge Iran has denied.

They have frequently claimed attacks, including on Aramco facilities, that Saudi Arabia and its main ally the United Arab Emirates have either said did not happen or were intercepted.

He said Saudi forces also intercepted two missiles in the southern Jizan and Najran provinces close to the border with Yemen. Yemen's Al Masirah TV, controlled by the Houthis, reported that the missile was targeting a Saudi Aramco facility in the city.

According to Conflict Armament Research (CAR), the Qasif-1 drone is said to resemble Iran's Ababil-2 drone and is the latest in a line of weapons Tehran has allegedly sent the Houthis.
