"Different topographies, different regions of the United States, are more accommodative of the wall than others", Mr. Abbott, a Republican, explained on Fox News.

Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that he will accept federal funds to add National Guard members to a statewide anti-crime program, but did not say how many of those troops would go to the U.S. -Mexico border as a part of President Donald Trump's order.

"Let's be crystal clear on the scope of this mission", Brown wrote in a letter that accompanied the Memorandum of Agreement he submitted Wednesday to Defense Secretary James Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. For what it would cost the Guard to make just TWO arrests at the border, we could give a homeless veteran permanent housing for an entire year.

There is a "mathematical need" for the national guard, Abbott said and claimed their presence would yield tangible results.

The only holdout border state was California, led by Democratic Gov.

Under the federal law Trump invoked in his proclamation calling for National Guard troops, governors who send troops retain command and control over their state's Guard members and the US government picks up the cost.

The federal government must agree to California's terms before the troops would be deployed. It will not be a assignment to locate women and children or detain persons escaping violence and trying a better existence.

So far, only Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico have agreed to send guardsmen, after President Trump called for a military response to what he calls "lawlessness" at the border.

A very powerful dedication comes from Texas, the place Gov. Greg Abbott suggested San Antonio radio station KTSA that he would add about 300 troops each week until the complete amount reaches not lower than 1,000 troops.

It's unclear what operations or missions troops will perform along the border that might require them to carry weapons. He said most of the southwest border sectors will receive National Guard support.

Brown also said that, "there is no massive wave of migrants pouring into California".

I look forward to working with you on this important effort.

In fiscal year 2017, about 304,000 individuals were apprehended along the U.S. -Mexico border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
