Facebook has broken Tinder and users who were booted off the dating app have taken to Twitter to complain about it, as spotted first by Select All.

On Tinder, users were greeted by a pop-up titled "Facebook permissions" when they tried to log in with Facebook credentials. The app is planning to launch a two-second looping video format called Loops for users to be able to share a little bit more of them than just a couple of static pictures.

Tapping the "Ask me" option below leads them back to the start again, a login loop that can not be defeated no matter how many tears are shed.

The service is aimed at helping Tinder users who are struggling to get matches, start conversations and set up dates.

Facebook's latest API changes led to a momentary setback in virtual romance on Wednesday, as Tinder users were trapped in a log-in loop and unable to access their account.

With outsiders' access to data under scrutiny, Facebook has outlined several changes to further tighten its policies, including restricting access that apps can get about users' events, as well as information about groups such as member lists and content. Given the recent Facebook scandal, the platform restricted the access of various third party apps to user data.

Around three hours later, Tinder confirmed the issue had been resolved.

The glitch does not appear to be affecting other dating apps that allow Facebook integration, like Hinge and Bumble, which both require a Facebook account to sign up.

Meanwhile, the problem has been fixed, with Tinderers reporting that their matches and messages are back. While this helped individuals find friends, Facebook said businesses that had phone or email information on customers were able to collect profile information this way.

When tapping "Ask Me" - the only provided option - the app requests that the user logs into Facebook again, which restarts the same error loop. So now that Facebook is tweaking the way in which it works with these independent apps, things are getting a bit hairy.
