The $4.99-per-month service touted since November and powered by BAMTech - the technology spinoff of Major League Baseball Advanced Media for which Disney outlaid $2.58 billion for a 75-percent stake - will also be carried through a reimagined ESPN app and offer a Netflix-like aggregation of sports.

The idea behind the app is simple: To connect fans with more live sports and ESPN content, but with a subscription model that's not connected to a normal cable subscription. MLS, too, will have exclusive content, with more than 250 games through the MLS Live out-of-market schedule.

ESPN's streaming sports service, ESPA+, will launch on April 12 the network has confirmed, offering MBL, NHL, and more for a single monthly subscription. The service will be integrated into a "re-imagined" version of the ESPN app, Disney says in a note with more details on content.

The launch comes as part of ESPN's major shift into the over-the-top (OTT) sports sector, which was sparked into life past year by The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of live streaming specialist BAMTech, which is powering ESPN Plus.

Here's what you need to know with regard to accessing ESPN+ once it is launched.

While ESPN's current slate of live sports isn't making the move over to ESPN+, there are still a lot of games left over to fit on the streaming service. On the MLB front, there'll be an ESPN+ MLB game every day throughout the regular season, for a total of more than 180 games.

However, it still doesn't get you ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, etc.

ESPN announced on Monday that it will officially launch its own streaming service next week, on April 12th 2018 to be exact. Add on access to the National Hockey League games is debuting with the 2018 season.

Not having the linear ESPN networks included in that $4.99 could be a turnoff for some, especially if they're already paying a cable bill. College sports will be shown live in addition, spanning everything from golf through gymnastics, swimming and diving, wrestling, and soccer. Coverage will include Thursday, Friday and some Saturday and Sunday play during the events.

GRAND SLAM TENNIS - HUNDREDS OF TENNIS MATCHES FROM WIMBLEDON, US OPEN & AUSTRALIAN OPEN: Tennis fans will have access to more of the action than ever at three of the annual Grand Slam tennis events, with hundreds of men's and women's singles and doubles matches streamed on ESPN+. Meanwhile, cricket fans across the USA will get matches across Test, ODI, and T20 formats from New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Ireland.
