North Korea reportedly sent materials to Syria to be used for a chemical weapons facility, according to experts from the UN.

Another episode happened in August 2016, when a delegation of "North Korean missile technicians" visited Syria and brought with them "special resistance valves and thermometers known for use in chemical weapons", according to the report.

These materials can be used for both civilian and military purposes, experts say. Investigators also detailed sightings of North Korean technicians working at chemical weapons and missile facilities inside Syria. In what is now widely viewed as a bid to stall for time, Damascus agreed to a Russian plan in 2013 to give up its chemical stockpile. Syria denied this report, saying that the only North Koreans present in Syria were sports coaches and athletes.

Since taking office more than a year ago, President Trump has met North Korean threats and bombast with fiery rhetoric in kind, but American demands for denuclearization - a US precondition for potential talks, dangled by the North as the Olympic Games wrapped up on Sunday - are widely considered likely to be futile.

The report revealed that some member-states seized goods that are believed to be part of a contract between the North Korean company KOMID and the interfaces of the Syrian Scientific Research Council.

However, an unidentified United Nations member state said a North Korean corporation was involved in Syria's long-distance missile program. The development follows reports of the suspected use of chlorine gas by the Bashar al-Assad-led Syrian government.

Last week, US President Donald Trump said Washington was imposing a fresh set of sanctions on North Korea, targeting more than 50 ships and maritime transport companies in several countries.

As for Myanmar, the panel said an unnamed member state reported that its Directorate of Defence Industries "maintains a sophisticated global procurement network" and "is seeking equipment from overseas suppliers for its DPRK-linked missile program". United Nations suspects that these materials are being used by Syria to make chemical weapons, which are being used against its own people.

CGTN's Nick Harper reports from NY. A publicly available report, which came out in September 2017, said a group is "investigating reported prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms cooperation" between Syria and North Korea.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has opened an investigation into the reported attack on the rebel enclave to determine whether chemical weapons were used, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Lavrov said the United States was repeating allegations by what he called "fully-discredited" Syrian rescue workers in rebel-held areas, who had put forth "absurd claims against the government of Syria".

Some details of the report have been released as fighting in the Ghouta area of Damascus has intensified and the number of civilian dead grows.
