Logan Paul John Gavin, actor who became ambassador to Mexico, has died

After the uproar at the start of the year over Paul's December 31 video showing an apparently lifeless, hanging body, he took a leave of absence from social media and YouTube removed him from Google Preferred, a premier ad service that offers brand advertisers access to top channel producers.

The spokeswoman cited examples of Paul using a stun gun on a rat in one video and urging his followers to engage in a recent online craze of eating Tide laundry pods.

Promptly after being criticized for filming in Japan's suicide forest, YouTube removed the content creator from the Google Preferred platform, effectively keeping top advertisers from using Paul's video to sell their products. A YouTube representative told Polygon it wasn't a decision the company made lightly, but YouTube believes his entire channel is unsuitable for advertisers.

He promised to be "more knowledgeable, more compassionate" in his future videos, a pledge that completely went out the window this week when he uploaded footage of himself repeatedly tasering a dead rat in his Los Angeles home.

An email sent to Paul's merchandise company for comment was not immediately answered Friday. He has also used inappropriate tags for videos and most egregiously, encouraged people to participate in the Tide Pod Challenge in which people eat Tide Pod detergent packs. Regardless, YouTube's move against Paul is certainly an interesting one, and likely sets precedent for other content creators who rely on shock value to promote their channels. While the video drew millions of views, it also drew fervent rebukes from people on social media who said it made light of a tragic issue.

Paul also posted a video that appears to show how incomplete the YouTuber's redemption narrative really is. And, he was unstoppable: Less than two minutes into the video, still dressed as a movie messiah or castaway, Paul bragged about gaining 1 million subscribers during the break. As such, the vlogger has once again been bad news for YouTube, with criticism coming over Paul's negative influence. "You either love me, or you hate me", he says toward the end of the video.

Animal rights group PETA immediately took issue with Paul's video torturing rats by saying "Yo, Logan Paul: Death isn't amusing".
