The service says up to 8 inches of snow could hit central and northeastern parts of the state, as well as in northwestern Iowa on Sunday into Monday. "Further south of wherever this heavier band sets up, we are expecting an area of 4-7" for a county or two further southeast, with lesser totals even further southeast, with those areas receiving more of a wintry mix, though still quite slippery roads from that. Conditions won't change much for tonight, though there may be some drizzle that starts to develop.

Snow will finally come to an end shortly after midnight into the early morning hours on Monday. Plan on hard travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Monday. For it to be considered a blizzard, sustained winds (not including gusts) must remain 35mph or higher causing a reduction in visibility to at or below 1/4 mile for at least 3 consecutive hours.

WHAT... Heavy snow expected. Bottom line is travel will be very hard for several hours that will include the entire afternoon. This may make for an icy Monday morning drive.
