The Black Caps have extended their winning streak to nine games across all formats after Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor guided them past a revised total of 151, in a rain-disrupted second one-day global against Pakistan.

Play resumed at 6.40pm at Saxton Oval, with the match reduced to 25 overs and the Black Caps set a revised target of 151 under Duckworth-Lewis calculations.

It took a stubborn rearguard action from Pakistan's tailenders to rescue their innings, with a 70-run eighth-wicket partnership off 43 balls between Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan proving key. Five balls later, Amir convinced skipper Sarfraz Ahmed to review a lbw call turned down against Kane Williamson when he hadn't even opened his account.

The Black Caps are playing a five-match ODI series with Pakistan, with game three in Dunedin on Saturday. Mitchell Santner, seeing the batsman advance, threw it wide outside off. Hafeez reached out but slapped it straight to Guptill at extra cover.

Mohammad Hafeez top scored with 60, while Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali scored half centuires late in the innings. However, Guptill and Ross Taylor (45 n o, 43b, 4×4) ensured victory for the hosts comfortably.

Shadab ended up scoring 52 off 68 deliveries, which included three boundaries and a six, before he was caught behind off the bowling of Ferguson.

Earlier the Pakistani's started slowly before getting through to 246 for 9 in their 50 overs. An over after successfully reviewing a caught-behind call, he became the first of many to gift-wrap his wicket - pulling a short ball well outside of off-stump off Trent Boult straight down the throat of Munro at square leg. They did that with aplomb, Guptill showing the way.

Faheem Ashraf and Sarfraz Ahmed were in and out in a jiffy as Pakistan slipped further. "I think our batting is not performing well, but our lower order batted very well so we were in with a chance".

He spent the weather break on the physio's table after his back tightened up early in the Black Caps' chase. "I thought for the first half the guys were brilliant with the ball and then Pakistan showed some real resistance at the end and put some partnerships together to get what could have been a tricky little total on that surface".
