The proposed class-action complaint says, "Google's open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender, barred by law".

James Damore, the former Google engineer who was sacked after distributing a memo questioning the company's diversity policies, filed a class action lawsuit on Monday claiming racial discrimination by the technology giant.

Mr. Damore and another former Google engineer, David Gudeman, filed a lawsuit Monday, which seeks class-action status, in superior court in California's Santa Clara County.

"Google's management goes to extreme - and illegal - lengths to encourage hiring managers to take protected categories such as race and/or gender into consideration as determinative hiring factors, to the detriment of Caucasian and male employees and potential employees at Google", it says. In doing so, Damore also painted gross generalizations against women, accusing them of being more neurotic and anxiety-ridden, and he believes these supposed traits render women unsuitable for the stress of higher-level tech jobs.

Damore's lawsuit is the latest legal challenge for Google, which also faces a suit for unequal pay.

Damore's suit, which comes from the opposite end of the spectrum, was expected, given his very public hiring of Dhillon, in August.

As BuzzFeed News reports, several women have filed discrimination suits against Google, alleging that the company paid them less than their male counterparts, and faulting the company for asking the female hires about prior pay.

In a press conference with his attorney on Monday, Damore said Google employees "felt like they couldn't talk about anything".

Google terminated Gudeman in 2016 after he made comments suggesting a Muslim colleague had a link to terrorism.
