Late strikes give Carvalhal dream start at Swansea

Carlos Carvalhal was delighted after guiding Swansea City to a dramatic victory in his first game in charge, but admitted that they are not in "paradise" quite yet.

Substitute Luciano Narsingh sealed victory for the Swans in the 90th minute to spark wild celebrations in the away end dugout.

"I said to the players before the match that if you ask 100 people who understand football, 100 people would say Swansea will be relegated", he said. It is still a small percentage.

Watford had taken the lead on 11 minutes, Andre Carrillo heading in after Richarlison's shot had been saved. Me, my players, my chairman, the fans, we are not part of this 100. We believe we can stay [in the Premier League] but it will be tough, very tough work.

Fabianski denied Gray with a superb save in the 85th minute and Swansea equalised moments later as Ayew side-footed the ball home from close range after an inviting cross from the right was headed into the Ghanaian's path.

"We finished the game trying everything, two attackers, two wingers, (Renato) Sanches in the middle, (left-back Martin) Olsson playing like a winger".

"I think we delivered that - and deserved the win".

Swansea's next game is against Tottenham on Tuesday, 2 January and, despite the euphoric nature of the win at Watford, Carvalhal struck a cautious tone. The result lifted Swansea off the bottom of the table and provided former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carvalhal with a dream start to his tenure in South Wales. "We have a hard game against Tottenham on Tuesday, which will not be easy, and we have a very short time to prepare the strategy of the team". If this is the beginning, we will be better in the future because with more training to change the dynamic we will be better.
