Biggest pregame story lines heading into Bucs vs. Saints

Domingo Copeland | 01 January, 2018, 04:07

Bucs QB Jameis Winston threw a ideal 39-yard strike to Chris Godwin, capping off a 95-yard game winning drive, as Tampa stunned New Orleans, 31-24, Sunday. That led to the punt to the 5-yard line, which Winston converted into a massive opportunity.

The Bucs moved down the field on their first possession of the second half before quarterback Jameis Winston was intercepted in the end zone by Marcus Williams for his second interception of the game.

News had come Friday that head coach Dirk Koetter would be back for a third season in 2018. Although the Bucs are sitting at 4-11 and have been eliminated from playoff contention, their goal is to still finish the season off strong when the two teams face off today.

Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan picked up his 13th sack of the season, on a play that ended the first half. Bryan Angers punt was fielded deep by New Orleans Tommylee Lewis, and special-teams captain Josh Robinson stripped the ball loose.

Brees completed 5-of-6 passes for 57 yards during the 13-play, 92-yard drive, including a 3-yard touchdown to running back Zach Line with 7:13 remaining.

Rookie running back Alvin Kamara accounted for both New Orleans touchdowns in the first two quarters, when the Saints assumed a 14-13 advantage at halftime.

The Saints scored on the longest kickoff return in club history in the first quarter and took a 14-7 lead late in the period, but found itself in a bit of a struggle with Tampa Bay in the third quarter while nursing a 17-13 lead.

The Bucs scored on their opening drive, getting a 1-yard touchdown run from Peyton Barber, who started and ran well, getting 63 yards in the first three quarters.
