On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly sent termination letters via FedEx to all 16 remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), a group that makes recommendations about the U.S. government's response to the HIV epidemic.

"Trump began the month by erasing LGBTQ people from his World AIDS Day statement, and ends it by firing all remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS", Sarah Ellis, CEO of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, tweeted.

"It is a risky thing when the administration is eliminating people whose views are based in science and community experience", HIV Project Director at Lambda Legal in an interview with GPB.

Ulysses Burley, a former Pacha member who left with Mr Schoettes in June, told The Independent that he had heard from other, Obama-era appointees who were suddenly dismissed this week. Medications have advanced since then, making HIV a much more manageable diagnosis for many Americans. In June, six members resigned, including Schoettes.

"No respect for their service", Schoettes said. Fangerous that #Trump and Co.

It is not uncommon for administrations to purge government agencies of holdovers from the previous presidency so that it can hire its own personnel. After Barack Obama entered office his White House dismissed all PACHA’s members appointed during Georg

Trump's termination of council members isn't a first time an administration cleaned house on PACHA.

Reports came out that Trump, behind closed doors and complaining about immigration statistics, was allegedly upset that tens of thousands of Haitians came to the USA each year, telling advisers the immigrants from that nation "all have AIDS". However, according to him, "a lot of those key vulnerable populations are not being prioritized in this administration". He also noted that some people on the board were sworn back in as members earlier this year when their initial terms expired.

But while President Barack Obama had terminated all Bush appointees to the council, this situation is different, said Maldonado, who was appointed by Obama and was to serve into next year.

Trump's proposed budget, for example, which significantly cut funding for HIV/AIDS prevention and education measures, could lead to millions of deaths according to a report from the ONE Campaign. "There is no way for us to know where on the agenda HIV policy is, and that is the concerning part". "It is of great importance for people living with HIV like myself". Neither statement includes a explicit mention of LGBT people, who are considered to have face the brunt of the disease.

It's unclear whether he actually said that or not - the allegation came from an unnamed source, and Trump has further denied he made those comments. The Washington Blade reported in October gay Republicans familiar with HIV/AIDS issues and LGBT people have been among those contacted by a Trump administration official for possible appointments to PACHA.
