During the rollout, AT&T said it will continue to explore upgrades like 5G.

The First Responder Network Authority will make payments to AT&T based on success, ultimately shelling out $6.5 billion.

As part of the agreement, AT&T will use federal funding to build new cell towers around the state that will help improve existing cell phone service in many rural and tribal areas.

Every state accepted the FirstNet deployment plan in the 90-day decision period governors had to either opt-in or opt-out of the FirstNet proposed Radio Access Network buildout plan, which concluded yesterday. States that don't announce decisions will be included in the FirstNet project. "And they'll be able to help people". All are participating, and American Samoa, Guam, and Northern Marianas Islands get until March 12, 2018 to decide.

That system, which is operated through a partnership with AT&T, is meant to deliver dependable wireless broadband internet connections to public safety community members. "Due to their vision and hard fought efforts, I can proudly say that this lifesaving network is now a reality across America; FirstNet is going to enhance the safety and security of our first responders and the people they serve".

The opt-out decision, and the entire process leading up to a decision allowed the state to maintain leverage to "ensure that the AT&T proposal was one of the best in the country", Sununu said.

Phil Bryant today announced that he has accepted the nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN) deployment plan offered by FirstNet and AT&T on behalf of his state, making MS the 46th state-not including three territories-to "opt-in" to the FirstNet system by today's deadline. "We are pleased that the state's vigorous pursuit of the opt-out path left us in a stronger position than any other state in the country".
