"Since we knew the USA would veto the resolution, we didn't want to waste our ammunition", one official explained to The Jerusalem Post.

The UN General Assembly will hold an emergency session Thursday to vote on a draft resolution rejecting President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital after the United States vetoed the measure at the Security Council.

Mansour said on Monday he hoped there would be "overwhelming support" in the General Assembly for the resolution.

The remaining 14 Security Council members voted in favor of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which did not specifically mention the United States or Trump but which expressed "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem".

The U.N. General Assembly will hold an emergency session on December 21 to vote on the proposed measure that the USA vetoed at the Security Council. Such a vote is non-binding, but carries political weight.

"The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those who voted against us", she wrote in a letter reports Israel based Haaretz.

The Future Movement Tuesday condemned the USA position in a statement after its parliamentary bloc's meeting, saying it was biased toward Israel and was a flagrant violation of global resolutions in support of the Palestinian right and the rights of the Palestinian people.

On Twitter, Ms Haley posted on Twitter that "the USA will be taking names" during the vote on Thursday at the 193-nation assembly.

Presidential Spokesperson Ibrahim Kalın also said Tuesday that Turkey would resume intense efforts until Thursday for the Jerusalem decision to be accepted at the U.N. General Assembly.

Trump's announcement on Jerusalem infuriated the Arab world and upset Western allies.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has made it a personal mission to eradicate antisemitism at the global intergovernmental institution, declaring in April 2017 that calls for the destruction of Israel constitute "modern antisemitism" and promising to treat the Jewish state with "impartiality".

Knowing in advance that the US would veto Monday's Security Council resolution, the Israeli delegation refrained from mounting the kind of intensive lobbying effort it has in the past in such situations.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stated that what "we witnessed here in the Security Council is an insult", adding: "It won't be forgotten". Palestinians want the capital of an independent Palestinian state to be in the city's eastern sector, which Israel captured in a 1967 war and annexed in a move never recognised internationally.
