Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek Movie Pitch Heads to Writers' Room

Quentin Tarantino is reportedly working with J.J. Abrams on a new Star Trek movie for Paramount. Tarantino and Abrams have plans to bring together a writers room to develop a film at Star Trek studio Paramount.

Turning A Classic Episode Into A Movie?

So, where did Tarantino's potential Star Trek gig come from?

Second, Tarantino has said on numerous occasions that he plans to retire from directing films after his next two pictures. The excitement about this particular project wouldn't be the impact that Trek would have on Tarantino; it's what Tarantino would have on Trek. Tarantino noted that many classic Star Trek episodes could be "easily expanded" into a feature film, and he specifically mentioned the Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" as one that could work on the big screen. And he's shared that idea with fellow director J.J. Abrams (currently working on "Star Wars: Episode IX"). Although a fourth installment of the Star Trek film reboot would more than likely be set in the Kelvin universe, original series or even TNG stories could act as inspiration for a script. While Tarantino is known for penning and directing his own movies, he has also directed for established franchises like CSI and ER.

Speaking to Nerdist about his love of "Star Trek" and vision for a potential full-length movie back in 2015, Tarantino said: "The only thing that limited them was their '60s budget and eight-day shooting schedule. You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some incredible, wonderful stuff".
